The Book of Titus

CHAPTER ONE1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, greets you. I was sent to assist God's elect in developing the knowledge and faith necessary for a life of devoted service to God. 2 We are assured of our everlasting existence through our faith and understanding. Even before time started, God made that promise to us, and God never tells lies. 3 God informed the world about that life when the time was perfect. He accomplished this by communicating the message of the Good News, and he gave me the responsibility for doing so. I delivered the message because God, our Saviour, instructed me to. 4 To Titus, a beloved son to me in the faith we share. Grace and peace to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour. 5 I left you in Crete so you could finish what needed to be done. I also left you there so that you might pick men to be elders in each community. 6 To be an elder, a man must not be guilty of living in the incorrect way. He must be true to his wife, and his children must be devoted to God. They must not be labeled as wild or disobedient youngsters. 7 An elder's responsibility is to look after God's work. Therefore, it should be impossible for anybody to accuse him of living in the incorrect way. He can't be arrogant, conceited, or easily enraged. He must not engage in excessive drinking or pick fights. He must not be the type of man who would do anything for money. 8 An elder must be willing to assist others by inviting them into his house. He needs to value righteous things. He must be intelligent. He must live morally. He must have a strong commitment to God and want to please him. Additionally, he needs to be capable of self-control. 9 An elder must be committed to the same real message that we preach. He will then be in a position to uplift others with teaching that is genuine and right. He will also have the ability to disprove the arguments made by people who oppose this doctrine. 10 This is significant because many individuals refuse to obey—those who talk about meaningless things and mislead others. I'm specifically referring to people who claim that non-Jewish men must be circumcised in order to satisfy God. 11 These people must be stopped because they are ruining entire families by propagating false information. They simply teach how to deceive people and make money. 12 One of their own prophets admitted that the Cretans were always liars. They are terrible creatures and lethargic people who do nothing but eat." 13 The prophet's statements are correct. Tell such folks that they are mistaken. You have to treat them loudly. Then they will grow in faith and cease listening to the tales given by those Jews. They will no longer obey the orders of those who have strayed away from the truth. 15 Anything and everything is pure to those who are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are full of sin and refuse to believe. They have actually lost their ethics and developed a bad mentality. 16 They claim to know God, yet their actions demonstrate that they do not acknowledge him. They are abhorrent. They have no capacity for good deeds and will not submit to God.

CHAPTER THREE3 Remind your people that rulers and government leaders should always be respected. They must respect these leaders and be willing to do good. 2 Tell them to avoid criticizing others and to practice nonviolent conflict resolution. They should treat everyone with kindness and respect.  3 Our foolishness dates back to the past. We disobeyed, we made mistakes, and we became obedient slaves to the numerous desires and pleasures of our bodies. We lived a life of depravity and enmity. We were hated by others, and we hated one another. 4 But suddenly the goodness and love of God, our Saviour, were revealed. 5 He spared us because of his kindness, not because of anything we did. He saved us by washing us clean. He redeemed us by renewing us in the Spirit. 6 Through our Saviour, Jesus Christ, God totally poured the Holy Spirit onto us. 7 Through his grace, we were reconciled to God. God saved us so that we may be his offspring and anticipate enjoying a life that never ends. 8 It's accurate to say this. And I want you to make sure that the public are aware of these things. People who believe in God will then take care to live moral lifestyles. These are excellent ideas that will benefit everyone. 9 Avoid people who get into pointless debates, gossip about unimportant family histories, or stir up difficulty and conflict about what the Law of Moses says. Nobody will benefit from these things, which are nonsensical. 10 All people who start disputes should be warned. Don't interact with them if they continue to cause issues after a second warning. 11 You are aware of how terrible and immoral such individuals are. Their actions demonstrate that they are incorrect. 12 To you, I'll send Tychicus and Artemas. Please make every effort to come to me in Nicopolis when I send them. This winter, I've chosen to spend it there. 13 From there, Apollos and Zenas the attorney will travel. Make every effort to assist them in getting ready for their journey. Make certain they have all the necessities. 14 Our people must learn to live their lives for the greater good and to aid those in need. Then their lives will not be meaningless.   15 I am sending your greetings on behalf of everyone who is here with me. Please convey my greetings to all who love us in the faith.  May God bless you all.

CHAPTER TWO: 2 But you must instruct everyone in living in a manner consistent with genuine teaching. 2 Teach the elder guys to restrain themselves, to be serious, and to be intelligent. They need to have great faith, strong love, and strong patience. 3 Also, educate the elder ladies on how to live the way those who serve the Lord should live. They should not gossip about others or consume excessive amounts of alcohol. What is excellent should be taught. 4 By doing this, they will display the value of loving one's husband and offspring to younger women. 5 They shall impart to them the virtues of wisdom and purity, as well as how to take care of their houses, be kind, and be willing to support their husbands. No one will thereafter be able to critique the instruction God provided us. 6 Encourage the young guys to be wise in the same manner. 7 Through your excellent deeds, you should serve as an example for others in every manner. Try to be sincere and serious while you teach. 8 Additionally, your training must be unequivocally accurate to protect you from criticism. Those who oppose you will then feel humiliated. They won't have anything unfavourable to say about us. Tell the employees to always be willing to serve their employers, not to quarrel with them, not to steal from them, and to demonstrate their trustworthiness by not engaging in any of these behaviours. Following that, they will demonstrate the value of God our Saviour’s teaching in all they do. 11 Because of God's grace, this is how we need to live. This grace has the power to save everyone. It teaches us not to rebel against God and not to follow the terrible examples the world sets for us. It teaches us how to conduct our lives in the here and now in a sensible and moral manner—a manner that demonstrates genuine adoration for God. 13 While we wait for the return of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, we ought to live in that way. He is our greatest hope, and he will arrive in splendour. 14 He laid down his life for us. He died to deliver us from all wickedness. He gave his life to purify us, to make us his own possessions and goodhearted people forever. 15 These are the details you should share with others. Encourage them and correct them when they're in error. Don't let anyone believe they can disrespect you since you have complete authority to do this.
